Ray Bradbury, Author, Dies at 91

Today is a sad day for the literary world. Ray Bradbury is dead at the age of 91. While that is a very long time for a person to live considering how many people die every day, this is still a tragedy.

Now, I haven’t read much by this author. But I did read Fahrenheit 451 last year. While the book had been a little hard to get into and read at first, once I got into it, I fell hard. It was a wonderful book. Scary, but wonderful. Beautifully written and deep. The fact that it is on the Banned Books List is also scary. A book about book banning on the banned list? Oh the irony.

So if you haven’t read it yet, I recommend you check it out. I plan to check out more of Bradbury’s other works. Mr. Bradbury, rest in peace.

“If you want to write, if you want to create, you must be the most sublime fool that God ever turned out and sent rambling. You must write every single day of your life. You must read dreadful dumb books and glorious books, and let them wrestle in beautiful fights inside your head, vulgar one moment, brilliant the next. You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads. I wish you a wrestling match with your Creative Muse that will last a lifetime. I wish craziness and foolishness and madness upon you. May you live with hysteria, and out of it make fine stories — science fiction or otherwise. Which finally means, may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.” – Ray Bradbury
