Books in November 2017

For 2017, I have challenged myself to read 80 books. In November, I read seven.

New Favorites: Game (Jasper Dent #2) by Barry Lyga; Sister’s Fate (Cahill Witch Chronicles #3) by Jessica Spotswood

Classic: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

Least Liked: The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich

I also enjoyed Rage Within by Jeyn Roberts, Knee-High Lies by Dawn Ford, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Screenplay by J.K. Rowling.

My new favorite reads for November.

My classic read for the month.

My Harry Potter read for the month. The book is beautifully illustrated and the screenplay itself is well written. It made me want to re-watch the movie (which I plan to do soon)

I got this book for review and it ended up being pretty good.

Here’s some fun pictures of what my animals like to do when I take my pics. I plan to make a post in the future on how my book pics are done so consider it a sneak peek!

So what did you read in November and what were your favorites? How many books are you tackling for 2017?

NaNoWriMo 2017: Week 4 & Conclusion

That’s right, guys…I finished! While I did have some trouble during week 4, I also found a burst of motivation and strived to finish. I am pretty happy with myself for managing that. There are several days that I didn’t/couldn’t write so the fact that I managed to complete my goal is truly astounding.

I was worried about how I was going to connect my current story to the ending chapters, which I had already written. However, when it came time to do so, it ended up being easier than I thought. So Much Rage has definitely been my most difficult NaNo novel that I can remember writing. It will need a ton of edits but I’m glad I got it finished.

While it was interesting working with part of an online, I do wish that I had planned the story out more when it was still fresh in my mind. So Much Rage is a story idea that I’ve had for several months so while I knew the basics, there was a lot of holes throughout the story that I had to figure out how to fill.

Here are my final stats:

Goal: 50,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 50,019.

I did feel like this year that the NaNoWriMo validated word count and my Scrivener word count were very off but I wrote until the story was finished and until I had gone past 50K through the NaNoWriMo validation.

So, YAY! Did you participate in NaNoWriMo this year? If so, how did you do? Remember–No matter how much you wrote, even one word is more than you would have had otherwise.

NaNoWriMo 2017: Week 3

So guess what?  Yep, I’m still behind! I had this grand plan of getting caught up over the weekend and then I spent most of the it feeling miserable. Fun times. I’m not giving up, though; there’s still time.

I keep getting stuck on where to go next in my plot, though. I love my idea and the characters, but I’m just not sure where to go with them at the moment. To switch things up, I skipped ahead and wrote the last three chapters of the book and it helped a little. Some ideas came to me today so hopefully they work out and help me keep going. I’ve just got to get the rest of the story down and then I can tweak it later on.

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 50,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 31,274.
Word Count Remaining: 18,726.
Days Remaining: 19

How is NaNoWriMo going for you? I hope it is going well!

Books in October 2017

For 2017, I have challenged myself to read 80 books. In October, I read ten.

New Favorites: Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King & Owen King; There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins

Classic: Dracula by Bram Stoker

Least Liked: Hotel Ruby by Suzanne Young

Old Favorites (Re-Reads): Goosebumps: Ghost Beach by R.L. Stine

I enjoyed everything else that I read this month. I read three Goosebumps books (Phantom in the Auditorium, Welcome to Camp Nightmare, & Ghost Beach) for the Goosebumps-along and while I have read them all before, I liked this even more this time around.

I also re-read I Hunt Killers and liked it even more than before. Dracula is my favorite classic for the year so far. Pretty Little Liars: Vicious was fun and wrapped up the series well (finally).

Hotel Ruby was super disappointing. I almost DNFed it but it started getting more interesting halfway. I ended up getting pretty annoyed with it because it had such promise but poor execution and characters. I finally read the Rabbit in Red book that came in my Horror Block ages ago (RIP Horror Block) and I really enjoyed it. If you like horror movies and Ready Player One, you will probably enjoy it as well.

My new favorite read for October. I shared this on Twitter and look what happened!

Another favorite.

My classic read for the month. My favorite for the year so far.

My favorite re-read.

Sadly I didn’t get to any Harry Potter related reads this month but can hopefully do two for November or December. I did finish a Harry Potter themed cookbook but as I’ve only completed one recipe, I didn’t want to review it until I tried a few more. I will probably add that one at the end of the year.

So what did you read in October and what were your favorites? How many books are you tackling for 2017? How’s your progress going?

NaNoWriMo 2017: Week 2

I’m still behind on my second week of NaNoWriMo but I’m only about 5K under so I feel like I can get back on track if I really work at it. It’s been a very busy month. I’m liking my story even more and the direction it’s going is interesting.

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 50,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 19,470.
Word Count Remaining: 30,530.
Days Remaining: 16.

How is NaNoWriMo going for you? I hope it is going well!
