Camp NaNoWriMo 2018: Week 1

So far my progress for Camp NaNoWriMo is going great! Here are my stats:

Target Word Count:15,000

Total Words Written: 7,076

Words Remaining: 7,924

Days Remaining: 23

Editing and re-writing, for me, is generally easier than starting a new story but I am very happy with my progress. I’ve changed and added things and feel like my story is getting even better. For someone who really hasn’t written much this year, I am really happy with how things are going. Camp NaNo’s website suggests that I will meet my goal by July 17th if I continue at this rate. I’m aiming to get as much as the story done as I can so if I go past my 15K goal, I’ll be thrilled.

Are you participating in Camp NaNo? If so, how is it going for you? Happy writing!

Camp NaNoWriMo 2018

So if you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know that I’ve been struggling with my writing for the last couple of years. This year has especially been a struggle with so many things in my life changing. I’ve been doing Camp NaNo since 2012 and as long as I am able, I don’t want to ever miss it or NaNoWriMo.

This year, I’m taking it easy, at least for Camp NaNo. I’m attempting 15K of re-writing/editing The Birthday Bash. So far I’ve managed about 4K despite having a late start so I am optimistic that I will accomplish my goal. If I still feel inspired after making my goal, I plan to continue until I’m finished. I will try and do a update every week to keep myself accountable and perhaps my success or failure will help someone else.

Are you participating in Camp NaNo? If so, what are your goals? Happy writing!

Camp NaNo 2017 Session #2: Week 4

Camp NaNoWriMo is over and somehow I wrote over 12K today. Yeah, I’m not sure how that happened, either. I planned to stop but it was hard to so I rolled with it. I didn’t really get anything else done today but that’s OK. The re-write/edit of Whispertown is finished!

Here are my final stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 51,138.
Word Count Remaining: 0.
Days Remaining: 0.

I am thrilled that I managed to finish. It was unexpected. I plan to take a short break before looking over some notes from my beta reader and then I will make a few changes here and there. Despite all of the edits, some scenes still need some work. I think my character voice has improved a lot, though.

I can’t wait to do another draft of this where the plot changes. Should be an interesting adventure!

How did you do for Camp NaNo? If you made (or went over) your goal, Congrats! If you didn’t but still wrote something, Congrats! Every word written is another step to success! I have loved doing both sessions of Camp NaNo and can’t wait for NaNoWriMo. I have a really fun story idea and can’t wait to start writing it!

Expect more regular posts in August. Unless we decide to move, and then I’ll let you know.

Camp NaNo 2017 Session #2: Week 3

This session of Camp NaNo has been going pretty great as I have met my 30K word goal! My plan now is to keep going to see how much I can get to. Not only did I meet my word goal but I also got back my motivation for re-writing/editing this story, which is always awesome!

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 31,472.
Word Count Remaining: 0.
Days Remaining: 7.

I can’t wait to see how much more I can get within a week. How is Camp NaNo going for you? I hope it is going well!

Camp NaNo 2017 Session #2: Week 2

So far the second session of Camp NaNoWriMo is going better than I thought! The plot for my story hasn’t changed but I have been trying to fix the writing itself. A writing buddy is reading over my work and helping me fix things that sound off or that she doesn’t understand.

Once I meet my goal, I intend to keep going. Then I will work on the changes my buddy reader suggests before trying another version with a different plot direction. I’m so excited. Thank you Camp NaNo for making me excited for this story again! Many thanks to my buddy reader 🙂

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 24,578.
Word Count Remaining: 5,422.
Days Remaining: 15.

I have no doubts that I will finish my goal in time and can’t wait to see how much I can get done before the month is over. Still loving the story and characters.

How is Camp NaNo going for you? I hope it is going well!

Camp NaNo 2017 Session #2: Week 1

So far the second session of Camp NaNoWriMo is going well even though I have only written four out of eight days. I haven’t made too many changes to my re-write but I like the changes I have made and once I finish this draft, I plan to do another with major plot changes just to see how a certain direction turns out.

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 13,371.
Word Count Remaining: 16,629.
Days Remaining: 22.

So I am about halfway through with my goal. If I finish it, I plan to keep going until the end of the month. I had this week off and even though I kept fairly busy with decluttering my junk room and running errands, I still managed to get a good bit of writing done.

I return to work on Monday and I have already checked my e-mail to see that it’s probably going to be a rough week. But I am still confident that I will still be able to make my goal! And if I somehow manage to finish editing the entire book, great! At least it has gotten me motivated to work on this project again. I’d forgotten just how much I love these characters and story.

How is Camp NaNo going for you? I hope it is going well!

Camp NaNoWrimo 2017: Week 4 & Final Results

The last week of Camp NaNoWriMo went pretty well for me. I finally got over being sick and my tooth has stopped hurting (for now). I finished on the 28th but according to my math, only wrote for 15 of those days. Considering how bad or busy I felt during some of the days I didn’t write, this is awesome.

Technically I ended up finishing Creeper on the 27th but I still needed 600 words to finish my 30K goal. I finally ended up writing an epilogue that would tie all three parts of the book together and I feel it works well. I may change my mind later on, but for now it works. I ended up writing an extra 609 past what I needed.

Here are my final stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 30,609.

I am so happy that I have finally finished Creeper! I plan on one more edit before I begin to query and then consider self-publishing. It is amazing that I was able to accomplish finishing the second part and writing the third in fifteen days when I had been struggling to do so for months.

How did you do for Camp NaNo? Did you finish? Even if you didn’t, if you wrote even one sentence, that is still a sentence you didn’t have before!
