Camp NaNoWriMo 2018: Week 1

So far my progress for Camp NaNoWriMo is going great! Here are my stats:

Target Word Count:15,000

Total Words Written: 7,076

Words Remaining: 7,924

Days Remaining: 23

Editing and re-writing, for me, is generally easier than starting a new story but I am very happy with my progress. I’ve changed and added things and feel like my story is getting even better. For someone who really hasn’t written much this year, I am really happy with how things are going. Camp NaNo’s website suggests that I will meet my goal by July 17th if I continue at this rate. I’m aiming to get as much as the story done as I can so if I go past my 15K goal, I’ll be thrilled.

Are you participating in Camp NaNo? If so, how is it going for you? Happy writing!

Camp NaNoWriMo: Week 4

campnano16

Hey guys!
Camp NaNoWriMo is coming to a close. I decided to use the event to edit and re-write my YA Horror novel that I wrote for NaNoWriMo last year–Evil in the Walls.

I actually finished on Tuesday at about 52K.

CNW_Winner_200

Most of my re-writing was done toward the end of the book. I’m still unsure if I like my new ending, though I feel it’s better than what I had. Hopefully my beta readers can help me decide by telling me which chapter they like.

Speaking of, if you would like to be a beta reader, please let me know. I need all of the help I can get. If you have a story you need read, I can offer to be your beta reader at a later time.

Now that Camp NaNo and my book are finished, I will probably take a small break before jumping back into writing. How’s your writing going if you’re participating? Hang in there! Even if you don’t meet your goal, if you have even written a single sentence, it is still progress!

Camp NaNoWriMo: Week 3

campnano16

Hey guys!
We’re on week 3 of Camp NaNoWriMo and I’m almost finished. I have a little over 5K left, though I will probably write somewhat more to finish up the book. 50K is just an initial word count goal.

I just added a new character death and have plans to change the ending. The last part of this book is as exciting to me as it was when I wrote it. I can see it playing out as a movie so well. I cannot wait to write the new ending!

Here’s my stats so far:

Total Word Count: 44,611.
Words Remaining: 5,389.
Days Left: 8.

I feel like I am just flying by with this edit. I’m currently looking for beta readers so if you are interested, please let me know.

Are you doing Camp NaNo? If so, what are you writing and what are your goals? How are you doing with them? Best of luck! One more week to go!

Camp NaNoWriMo: Week 2

campnano16

Hey guys!
We’re on week 2 of Camp NaNoWriMo and I’m actually ahead–I’m more than halfway finished!

There hasn’t been any major changes in the plot yet but I have decided that I am going to change the ending and also another part. I kinda feel bad that I am just soaring through so fast but that’s just how things are going. I really love this book. It has to get published!

Here’s my stats so far:

Total Word Count: 29,071.
Words Remaining: 20,929.
Days Left: 17.

And that’s with me missing a few days. I get quite a lot done on weekends and weeknights when my husband is working. I don’t imagine it will take too much longer to finish. I might have to get this one bound like I did Peace Represent just to have it on my shelf. I’m that proud of it!

Are you doing Camp NaNo? If so, what are you writing and what are your goals? How are you doing with them? Best of luck!

Camp NaNoWriMo: Week 1

campnano16

Hey guys!
So, if you don’t know, Camp NaNoWriMo began a week ago. I decided to use the event to edit and re-write my YA Horror novel that I wrote for NaNoWriMo last year–Evil in the Walls.

The edit is going really well so far. No major changes have really been made yet (those all seem to be toward the end) but I have found errors, re-wordings, and continuity issues even though I’ve already edited this before.

The first chapter still takes my breath away–I just love it!–and I am still enjoying the characters and the story. I feel like it’s one of my strongest yet.

Here’s my stats so far:

Total Word Count: 14,250.
Words Remaining: 35,750.
Days Left: 23.

I’m slightly ahead despite missing about three days so far. I tend to get a lot done on weekends.

Are you doing Camp NaNo? If so, what are you writing and what are your goals? Best of luck!

What I’m Working On: May 2015

wiwo14

Hey guys. Camp NaNo ended a few weeks ago. Since then, the only writing I have done is editing for NestPitch. Our Reasons is now online for agents to consider. Cross your fingers for me?

https://smjohnstondotcom.wordpress.com/2015/05/11/nestpitch-sj2-our-reasons/

Other than NestPitch, my plans are to continue re-writing and editing Creeper unless something significant happens. Then I’ll take it from there. I’ve also decided to start creating a new website. I’m playing around with some templates. I hope you’ll be willing and able to follow me to a new site. With so much writing to be done, I’ve decided that I’d rather focus on that more than blogging. I will miss blogging but my heart isn’t in it as much as it used to be.

Will keep you updated on the new site, NestPitch, and my other projects.

Results of Camp NaNo 2015

Hey guys. Apologies for the delay. Right after Camp NaNoWriMo ended, my fiance’ and I went to look at vendors for our wedding for a long weekend. I’ve had some time to think and I believe there will be some changes coming to this blog. More details later.

I finished Camp NaNo a day before schedule. Not bad considering I was unable to write much (or at all) here and there. My final word count ended up being longer than my first draft at 56,290 words. The original was only 50,114 words. I definitely like the changes in the new version and it’s always nice to do some cleaning up. I plan to go over it one more time before I begin querying and entering it into Twitter contests.

I will probably also do Camp NaNoWriMo in July to motivate myself to finish my Creeper short story collection.

How did Camp NaNoWriMo go for you? Are you planning to go again in July?
