NaNoWriMo 2016 Results

Hey guys, I hope that your writing has been going well if you did NaNoWriMo. The last few days have been a little crazy so apologies for the lack of updates. I hope that even if you did not complete 50K that you managed to get something written. It’s more than you would have had otherwise.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it or not this year. I’ve never not finished, minus that time I decided to do two Camp NaNoWriMo sessions (which was a disaster for the second session!). But somehow I managed to finish even though I had several sick, holiday, busy, or uninspired days. Honestly I probably wrote 50K in 20 or less days.

I finished Not My Fault at 50,265 words. It’s definitely going to need a lot of work but I feel that the overall story and characters came out well. It also helped me heal somewhat emotionally. Part of this story was autobiographical, though the main character acts in the way I wish I would have at her age.

While this was not my most enjoyable NaNo, I feel like it was still a strong one. There was just a lot going on and while stress can sometimes be motivating, it can also go in the other direction.

^Here’s the winner badge. Isn’t that paper flag adorable? I have to admit that I wasn’t so crazy about the “space” theme until I saw this flag and got this message after finishing: You’ve defied gravity this month! Truth.

How did you do with NaNoWriMo? I hope you at least got some of your story written. 2016 has not been a great writing year for me so it was nice to finally get something accomplished. Let me know if you finished or how much you got accomplished.

NaNoWriMo Week 3 & 4

Hey guys, hope your writing has been going well if you’re doing NaNoWriMo! Apologies for the lack of posts. Life has been very busy with the holidays beginning to make their appearance. I’m also still behind on my word count but I am hoping to catch up within the next three days. It’s a lot to do but if I work at it, I think I can do it!

I’ve recently become addicted to the Hamilton album like many other people, especially in the Booktube/reader/author community seem to be. I thought this was a funny line considering NaNoWriMo is about to end: Why do you write like you’re running out of time? Write day and night like you’re running out of time?

Here are my stats so far:

38,003 words written

11,997 words to go

3 days left

So how are you doing with NaNoWriMo? If you are like me and still struggling to catch up, may you be like Alexander Hamilton in regards to writing! 😉

NaNoWriMo Week 2

Hey guys, hope your writing has been going well if you’re doing NaNoWriMo! I’m still behind but I have made more progress since last time so that’s something. I’m hoping to knock out even more this weekend. Here are my stats so far:

19,466 words written

30,534 words to go

13 days left

So how are you doing with NaNoWriMo? Happy writing!

NaNoWriMo Week 1

Hey guys, hope your writing has been going well if you’re doing NaNoWriMo! I’m pretty behind because of several reasons (illness, vacation, anxiety over the election, work) but I am hoping to catch up this weekend. Here are my stats so far:

8,140 words written

41,860 words to go

21 days left

The book I’m writing is a very personal topic so it’s been difficult to write about. It does get easier as I go along, though.

So how are you doing with NaNoWriMo? Happy writing!

NaNoWriMo Week 4

We’re on the final day for NaNoWriMo. I finished at 50,967 on November 29th. While I wasn’t too worried about finishing, the thought of not being able to did cross my mind since I didn’t get much writing done before or during the Thanksgiving holiday. I managed to knock it out within the next two days, though, and had a blast doing so.

I’m estimating that it really only took me about 20 days to actually write Evil in the Walls since I missed 8-10 days. It really was one of the easiest novels to write so far. I’m really looking forward to the edits next year. This book has been a real adventure since I only had a few scenes and ideas planned. I’m thinking I might need to do that more often.

I also thought I might struggle breaking from my usual 1st person POV but I really didn’t. Writing in 3rd was just as easy and was definitely needed for this book. We’ll see if it helps my writing any when I pitch it for Twitter contests and querying after the editing phase. One of the most fun things about NaNoWriMo this year was the people I participated in Word Wars with. All former inkies and current insomniacs. It’s something I definitely need to do more often. Warring for fifteen minutes was especially helpful and I loved seeing a glimpse of what everyone else was writing.

For now, I’m taking a little writing break but I may talk myself into a Christmas themed short story or get back to editing/re-writing Creeper.

How is your NaNoWriMo going? Have you finished? What was your total word count? Are you happy with your work?

Until January, Evil in the Walls!

NaNoWriMo Week 3

The third week of NaNoWriMo is here and I am still doing well even though I’ve missed a few more days. Working overtime, making time for my family (husband + furbabies), and trying to stay in shape as well as write a novel within a month has been challenging. I am almost to 39K though, and that’s probably my record. The NaNoWriMo website estimates that I will finish on November 27th. We’ll see!

While the last two weeks were smooth, I have come to a few wrinkles while writing. One, I missed mentioning a major holiday so I’ll have to go back and write that in for the re-write(s). Two, the book is beginning to wrap itself up and I’m not sure if subconsciously I don’t want it to end, that I’m afraid of coming up short with the word count, or that I’m just not sure how to go to get to the ending being pictured in my head, but it has been difficult to write my way toward the end. I haven’t written any today but I seemed to be doing better with it yesterday. Hopefully I figure things out!

NaNoWriMo Week 2

The second week of NaNoWriMo has passed and I am still off to a strong start despite missing a few days of writing. Most of what I’m writing is unplanned so it has definitely been an adventure.  I am pleased with the direction things are going and am about to start getting into the last half, which will be even creepier than the first half (hopefully). I’m at about 31K right now–I think that has to be a record for me. I’m honestly not sure how I’ve managed to write that much in between working long hours and taking care of day-by-day things. But I’ll take it!
