Camp NaNo 2017 Session #2: Week 4

Camp NaNoWriMo is over and somehow I wrote over 12K today. Yeah, I’m not sure how that happened, either. I planned to stop but it was hard to so I rolled with it. I didn’t really get anything else done today but that’s OK. The re-write/edit of Whispertown is finished!

Here are my final stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 51,138.
Word Count Remaining: 0.
Days Remaining: 0.

I am thrilled that I managed to finish. It was unexpected. I plan to take a short break before looking over some notes from my beta reader and then I will make a few changes here and there. Despite all of the edits, some scenes still need some work. I think my character voice has improved a lot, though.

I can’t wait to do another draft of this where the plot changes. Should be an interesting adventure!

How did you do for Camp NaNo? If you made (or went over) your goal, Congrats! If you didn’t but still wrote something, Congrats! Every word written is another step to success! I have loved doing both sessions of Camp NaNo and can’t wait for NaNoWriMo. I have a really fun story idea and can’t wait to start writing it!

Expect more regular posts in August. Unless we decide to move, and then I’ll let you know.

Camp NaNo 2017 Session #2: Week 3

This session of Camp NaNo has been going pretty great as I have met my 30K word goal! My plan now is to keep going to see how much I can get to. Not only did I meet my word goal but I also got back my motivation for re-writing/editing this story, which is always awesome!

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 31,472.
Word Count Remaining: 0.
Days Remaining: 7.

I can’t wait to see how much more I can get within a week. How is Camp NaNo going for you? I hope it is going well!

Camp NaNo 2017 Session #2: Week 2

So far the second session of Camp NaNoWriMo is going better than I thought! The plot for my story hasn’t changed but I have been trying to fix the writing itself. A writing buddy is reading over my work and helping me fix things that sound off or that she doesn’t understand.

Once I meet my goal, I intend to keep going. Then I will work on the changes my buddy reader suggests before trying another version with a different plot direction. I’m so excited. Thank you Camp NaNo for making me excited for this story again! Many thanks to my buddy reader 🙂

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 24,578.
Word Count Remaining: 5,422.
Days Remaining: 15.

I have no doubts that I will finish my goal in time and can’t wait to see how much I can get done before the month is over. Still loving the story and characters.

How is Camp NaNo going for you? I hope it is going well!

Camp NaNo 2017 Session #2: Week 1

So far the second session of Camp NaNoWriMo is going well even though I have only written four out of eight days. I haven’t made too many changes to my re-write but I like the changes I have made and once I finish this draft, I plan to do another with major plot changes just to see how a certain direction turns out.

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 13,371.
Word Count Remaining: 16,629.
Days Remaining: 22.

So I am about halfway through with my goal. If I finish it, I plan to keep going until the end of the month. I had this week off and even though I kept fairly busy with decluttering my junk room and running errands, I still managed to get a good bit of writing done.

I return to work on Monday and I have already checked my e-mail to see that it’s probably going to be a rough week. But I am still confident that I will still be able to make my goal! And if I somehow manage to finish editing the entire book, great! At least it has gotten me motivated to work on this project again. I’d forgotten just how much I love these characters and story.

How is Camp NaNo going for you? I hope it is going well!

Camp NaNo 2017: Week 2 & 3

Long time, no post. Sorry about that. This Camp NaNo has been difficult. Not only am I suffering from a severe cavity/toothache as well as working overtime, but I also managed to get a sinus infection/cold on Easter Sunday. I am mostly better now but the toothache is still coming and going.

Still, I feel I’ve done pretty well despite missing several days of writing. This morning I had no idea on how I would end Creeper and now I have an outline all the way up to the end. Some of the last part was written without any planning but the rest of the story finally started to fill in for me.

Here are my current stats:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 20,899.
Word Count Remaining: 9,101
Days Remaining: 8.

At this rate, I need to write at least 1,012 per day to finish on time. It is estimated that I will finish past my goal but I am hoping to get a lot written tomorrow. Hopefully my body will give me enough of a break to finish. If not, well, I am still proud of what I have been able to accomplish so far.

How is Camp NaNo going for you? I hope it is going well!

Camp NaNo 2017: Week 1

So Camp NaNoWriMo started this month. It kind of snuck up on me but since I have been struggling to finish Creeper, I thought it would make for a perfect project to work on.

And within a week, I have managed to finish what I haven’t been able to for months: Part 2 of Creeper!

Now I’m on Part 3 and while I have some basic notes, I have no idea how this is going to end. I guess it’s a mix of planning and pantser so it should be interesting to see how it all goes down.

I’ve forgotten just how creepy Riley’s POV is. I’m also wondering on if the way I have these parts written will work since I can’t see doing them any other way. Maybe once Part 3 is finished, everything will fall into place.

Here’s my stats as of today:

Goal: 30,000 Words.
Total Words Written: 12,118.
Word Count Remaining: 17,882.
Days Remaining: 22.

At this rate, I only need 778 words per day to finish.

So far I’m pretty confident that I will be able to finish. I took a few days off due to life/work and because I was already ahead. I seem to do best on the weekends. I wasn’t able to get as much done this weekend because I slept in today and have been busy but I have Easter weekend coming up (3 days, yes!) so I feel I will get a lot done Friday and Sunday.

Are you doing Camp NaNo? If so, how is your progress going? I hope it is going well!

NaNoWriMo 2016 Results

Hey guys, I hope that your writing has been going well if you did NaNoWriMo. The last few days have been a little crazy so apologies for the lack of updates. I hope that even if you did not complete 50K that you managed to get something written. It’s more than you would have had otherwise.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it or not this year. I’ve never not finished, minus that time I decided to do two Camp NaNoWriMo sessions (which was a disaster for the second session!). But somehow I managed to finish even though I had several sick, holiday, busy, or uninspired days. Honestly I probably wrote 50K in 20 or less days.

I finished Not My Fault at 50,265 words. It’s definitely going to need a lot of work but I feel that the overall story and characters came out well. It also helped me heal somewhat emotionally. Part of this story was autobiographical, though the main character acts in the way I wish I would have at her age.

While this was not my most enjoyable NaNo, I feel like it was still a strong one. There was just a lot going on and while stress can sometimes be motivating, it can also go in the other direction.

^Here’s the winner badge. Isn’t that paper flag adorable? I have to admit that I wasn’t so crazy about the “space” theme until I saw this flag and got this message after finishing: You’ve defied gravity this month! Truth.

How did you do with NaNoWriMo? I hope you at least got some of your story written. 2016 has not been a great writing year for me so it was nice to finally get something accomplished. Let me know if you finished or how much you got accomplished.
