Book Review– Eve by Anna Carey

I’ve been wanting to read Eve for a while, though many of the negative reviews discouraged me. I ended up loving it. Was it perfect? No. But I still consider it a great read and I can overlook the few things that bugged me about the book.

One reason I may have really connected with this book is because I have always wondered what it would be like to be in a world in which women were basically enslaved to breed. Eve explores that.

Eve herself is a somewhat difficult character to like in the beginning, but she does develop over the course of the book. She did not always do the right thing, but that makes her more believable to me. Though I was kind of pissed at her over one major mistake she makes. I won’t spoil it, but it involves kind people dying.

I also liked the romantic interest and the romance subplot. It thankfully isn’t insta-love and develops at a somewhat natural pace given the world. I also loved Arden. Like seriously. I really hope she’s in the future books, too.

The world building was decent, though there were a few plot holes. Nothing major enough to make me stop reading. The writing was decent and many times had great description.

I really enjoyed the lake scene. Not quite sure what to think about the ending, though I like how it kind of ties in with sacrifice, something similar that Eve’s mother did for her. Luckily there are two more books in the series so that helps with this cliffhanger-like ending.
