What I’m Working On: October 2014

Hey guys, hope your October is going well. I’m still struggling with loss, but feeling better with each day. I have  started a spooky short story just to write something. The letters to my fur babies are finished so I will post them at a later date, when the time feels right.

So, what’s the short story about?
Here’s the teaser cover:
sville

A small rural town is devastated when the local newspaper begins to mysteriously report dark secrets about some of its most respected citizens.

Even after the paper has been proofread and monitored, the stories continue appearing.

It’s an idea I’ve had rolling around in my head for a while, somewhat based on my own hometown. Seemed like a perfect story to start on during the month of October.

I’ve also been trying to decide what to write for NaNoWriMo and I think I’ve decided to return to Our Reasons, a romance story about a depressed, suicidal girl and the guy who finds a draft of her suicide note. I tried writing it for Camp NaNo a few years back but only got a small portion done because I tried to do both Camp NaNo sessions, which turned out to be a big mistake.

Other than that, I haven’t been doing too much writing-wise. I’m still trying to decide what to write for NaNo and have unfortunately had to push back my Whispertown querying due to real life. Hopefully I can get back to that during December.

What I’m Working On: September 2014 #2

wiwo14

Hey guys, thanks for sticking with me this week. Still trying to everything with my computer back to normal.

Not a whole lot has happened, except that I did #PitchMadness on Tuesday. It was pretty fun and there were a lot of neat pitches floating around on Twitter. I got two agents/agency favorites so I have sent my query and chapters for Whispertown out. I haven’t heard anything yet, but I’ll still be excited that someone found my pitches intriguing. It’s a good step toward querying. Which, due to life events, I haven’t gotten to yet. But I definitely think Whispertown is the way to go.

I’m excited that October is almost here. During that month, I will try to do some Halloween/scary themed book recommendations and Book vs Movie posts. Sound good?

What I’m Working On: September 2014

Hey guys, not too much to report. I still haven’t went back to Chalts though I have the document open. Just looking for the right opportunity.

My results for Pitch Wars came back a few days ago. Whispertown wasn’t chosen BUT I did receive three out of four responses explaining why it didn’t make the cut. Two of the responses stated that it was one of their top picks but didn’t make the final or alternate cut.  Another liked the concept and title but gave some constructive criticism to make it better.

Now my plan is to participate in #PitchMadness next week and start querying Whispertown. If I don’t get anywhere, I’ll move onto another book. And I won’t stop until one day, my name is in the bookstores.

What I’m Working On: March 2014 Update #3

wiwo

Hey guys!

So I’ve finished second part of Chalts and am working on the third.  The third girl is from a POV I’ve never written before so it’s been pretty interesting. Other than that, I haven’t done too much. Oh, I did enter Whispertown for #PitMad.

This was my first #PitMad experience. It was actually kind of exhilarating and taught me several ways in which to word a pitch. Though I’m not sure if my pitches were any good or not since I didn’t get any favorites. The experience brought me hope and made me anxious. I was a little bummed that I didn’t get one bite. I’m hoping to figure out if it’s my pitches or if the subject matter is too controversial. I plan to query Whispertown next so I guess I will see how agents react to it soon enough.

I’ll definitely be doing #PitMad again in the future if I’m still unpublished. Though it brought disappointment, it also helped and I met some neat people on Twitter. There were also some pretty cool pitches and since nearly none of them got favorites (to my knowledge), that helps me feel a bit better about how everything went. I recommend entering next time around if your book is finished and ready for publication.

What I’m Working On: March 2014 Update #2

wiwo

Hey guys!

So I’m almost done with the second part of Chalts. I’ve decided not to do Camp NaNo for April. Maybe later. I really want to finish Chalts now if possible. I am going to participate in #PitMad if possible this Tuesday. Details HERE.

Other than that, I haven’t had much else going on though I think I’m going to start querying Whispertown and put Peace Represent on the back burner for now since I haven’t really heard anything back from the queries I’ve sent out.  I watched  The Book Thief recently so keep an eye out for this week’s Book vs Movie post!

Query/Agent/Publishing News: My First Submission

qapnws

Hey guys! So I’m really excited/anxious/nervous right now because I just sent my first query letter out. Unlike the last one, where I was guaranteed some sort of response to help future queries, this one has gone out to a literary agency that I’ve had my eye on for the last few months. I think it’s a really great fit for Peace Represent, and hopefully they’ll feel the same way.

So, cross your fingers for me! I plan to send queries for Peace out to a few more agencies before NaNoWriMo starts next month.

What I’m Working On: September 2013 Update

wiwo

Hey guys. Since I just took a week long vacation, I haven’t gotten to any querying or agent research yet and figured it had been a while since I’d updated you on my writing news. I’ve been trying to get back into the groove of things. I hope to send in a few queries in the next few weeks, however. I’ve already got my eye on a few. 🙂

I also haven’t written anything since a few days before my vacation. I just haven’t had the time. I have about 24% of Scattered, the sequel to my hoarding story, Cluttered, completed. I’m thinking that I may put Scattered on hold and work on Karen’s Not Home again since October is quickly approaching and it is a scary story. I’m a huge fan of all things Fall and Halloween, so October is going to be a busy month full of those kind of things. Might as well write about it too, eh?

In November, I’ll be editing and re-writing Whispertown because it needs it and because I’d like to query that next year. Other than that, I have no definite writing plans. My goals are basically to edit and re-write Whispertown, finish Scattered, send Peace Represent queries out, and possibly finish Karen’s Not Home.

I’m also going to work on some new buttons for the blog–something that better matches my blog signature font.
