Ten Favorite Female Book Characters

 

1. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter series)

Hermione has been one of my favorites since I first read the series in middle school. I’ve always been drawn to characters like me, and we have a lot alike–uncontrollable hair, love for reading, being smart. But I have always loved her sass and humanity as well.

2. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter series)

Luna is another character I can relate to because she’s different. Odd. Spiritual and childlike. I just found her to be incredibly interesting and with a good heart.

Heaven Casteel (Casteel series)

Heaven is by far my favorite VCA heroine. She is a strong character who must endure a lot of hardships starting from a young age. Despite it all, she manages to make it through. The only thing that saddens me is how things ended up for her. I especially liked her as a young girl and a young adult.

Jane Eyre (Jane Eyre)

Jane Eyre is from a time period in which women did not have the same freedoms as men did, or nearly the ones we have today. I loved her strong will and determination in life.

Carrie White (Carrie)

I felt bad for Carrie throughout the story, but I also admired how she developed as a character. She seemed to be finally learning to like herself until bullies ruined everything for her.

Wanderer/Wanda (The Host)

I felt Wanderer had great character development. She went from being a parasite who had little empathy for her host into someone who began to care about her host so much that she would risk her own life for her.

Cat Carson (The Wildflowers series)

Cat actually reminds me of Carrie White in that she comes from an overprotective, controlling family. I felt Cat had wonderful character development and it was neat seeing her learn to live life the way she wanted to. Her past also made me feel for her.

Rue (The Hunger Games)

I just love Rue’s curious, trusting personality.

I actually wept when she died. She would have been a really cool character to watch develop.

Matilda Wormwood (Matilda)

I loved Matilda’s adoration of books but she is also clever, witty, and just very fun to read about. She also uses her powers to get back at those who hurt her or her friends. I really looked up to her growing up and especially love Mara Wilson’s portrayal of her in the movie.

Charlie McGee (Firestarter)

Charlie may be a child but I found her to be strong willed, determined, and empathetic. She was an easy character to feel for.
