What I’ve Been Working On + Dissonance by Mariella Hunt

Hey guys, just checking in. Thing have been very busy lately, and for once a part of that involved writing. Well, sort of. On September 10th, I participated in #PitMad. This time I pitched my YA horror novel, The Birthday Bash, which is one of my favorite works.

Figuring out 140 character pitches for it was very interesting, but I was happy with most of the ones I came up with. I also got a few favorites so I have sent out the requests and am eagerly awaiting responses, though it will take some time. Hopefully this novel will do better than Our Reasons, which needs more work.

I’m hoping to get my book pictures for July done this week. The weather and other plans haven’t been very cooperative lately.

I don’t have any plans to do much writing until this NaNoWriMo. If I have some time after my wedding and honeymoon in October, I’ll probably just do some editing. I am very excited about my NaNo project, which I will go into more detail about later.

One last thing–look what came in the mail today.

Dissonance by Mariella Hunt

That’s it for now. Hopefully I will have some book pictures up soon. Thank you for your patience.

Results of Camp NaNo 2015

Hey guys. Apologies for the delay. Right after Camp NaNoWriMo ended, my fiance’ and I went to look at vendors for our wedding for a long weekend. I’ve had some time to think and I believe there will be some changes coming to this blog. More details later.

I finished Camp NaNo a day before schedule. Not bad considering I was unable to write much (or at all) here and there. My final word count ended up being longer than my first draft at 56,290 words. The original was only 50,114 words. I definitely like the changes in the new version and it’s always nice to do some cleaning up. I plan to go over it one more time before I begin querying and entering it into Twitter contests.

I will probably also do Camp NaNoWriMo in July to motivate myself to finish my Creeper short story collection.

How did Camp NaNoWriMo go for you? Are you planning to go again in July?

What I’m Working On: Camp NaNo 2015 (Week 2)

Hey guys. Camp NaNo started two weeks ago. How is everyone doing with it? I’m still behind, though I am slowly catching up. In between working 45+ hours a week at my regular job and doing some freelance work on the side, I feel I’m not doing too terribly.

I will probably be at 18-19K by the end of tonight. What are you at? How is Camp NaNo going for you?

Apologies for the lack of book reviews. It has been a very busy month! I hope to have some pictures of the books I read in March up whenever it decides to stop raining all the time here. 😉

Until next time!

What I’m Working On: Camp NaNo 2015 (Week 1)

Hey guys. So Camp NaNo started a week ago. How is everyone doing with it? I’m a bit behind because it has been difficult finding the energy to write after working overtime for the past few weeks. But it’s not bad, and I am confident that I will eventually catch up. Even though I’m sleepy, I’m enjoying the re-write. The Birthday Bash is going to be even better than before.

I am almost to 9K now. What are you at? How is Camp NaNo going for you?

In non-Camp NaNo news, I’ve also entered Our Reasons to #NestPitch. Wish me luck!

Until next time!

What I’m Working On: March 2015 Update #2

Hey guys. Sorry about the lack of posts lately. It’s gotten busy here. Camp NaNo starts next week so I will only be posting occasional updates and Book Reviews. If you want to be more involved in my Camp NaNo stats, follow me on Facebook or Twitter.

I haven’t been up to much lately except for a couple new parts of Creeper. I’m going to go ahead and put it on hold so I can prepare for Camp NaNo. Pretty excited!

Are you participating in Camp NaNo? If so, what is your book about? Would love to hear about it!

Until next time!

What I’m Working On: March 2015

Hey guys. So during the second week of March, my two-year-old Toshiba laptop died. And since it was going to cost half of what it cost to repair it (and a repair that wouldn’t guarantee more damage in the future), my fiance’ decided to get me a MacBook Air. Did I mention he’s the greatest?

Thankfully I’d thought to send the newest version of Our Reasons to myself via e-mail. Since we’re going to need an adapter to get my data off the computer. I’ve also thankfully sent The Birthday Bash to friends so I have a copy in my sent folder so I can work on the re-write/edit as planned for Camp NaNo, which is in a week and a few days.

Last Wednesday was #PitMad. I had a ton of fun with it and there were many cool entries. I probably retweeted about twenty or more, and mostly from people I’d never met. I also had five agents/agencies favorite mine. So far I’ve heard from three. Two rejections and one request for more pages. I’ve sent the pages. Fingers crossed!

If I don’t hear back in a few weeks, I plan to start querying. I’ve already got a list of agents/agencies to start with. If nothing comes of it, then I will post the entire story to Swoon Reads.

Other than that, I’ve started editing/re-writing Creeper. I’m thinking that the entire story collection will be finished by late August or early September. Hopefully. It’s a busy year for me–my fiance’ and I are looking into moving from our apartment, buying a home, and getting married later on in the year so it will definitely be interesting.

Next month Camp NaNo starts. I’m re-writing and editing The Birthday Bash so I can enter it into the next Twitter contest and also have another book to query. I can’t wait. It might be one of my favorites. During the month of April, I will only be posting Camp NaNo updates and book reviews so I can spend more time writing. Book vs Movie will resume in May. Hopefully I’ll have seen more movies by then.

Until next time!

What I’m Working On: February 2015 Update #3

Hi guys. I got the date mixed up for Pitch Madness, so sadly Our Reasons didn’t make it in time for submissions. Thankfully #PitMad is on March 11th so I don’t have to wait too long to pitch. I’ve finished editing the content and format, and have several Twitter pitches ready to go. This time I will make sure I don’t forget it.

I’ve also started to edit/re-write Creeper. So far I think it’s going to be even better than it was before. The actual short story publication will probably be at the end of this year or maybe the beginning of next year since I have to finish editing/re-writing the first two stories plus write and edit the third, along with all the other projects I have going on. I’ll keep you posted.

Here’s my revised writing goals for this year (subject to change):

-Edit Creeper in Feb-March
-Submit Our Reasons to PitMad on March 11
-Submit Our Reasons to Swoon Reads if Pit Mad is unsuccessful
-Edit You Know You Love Me in March/May
-Write Recovery in March/May/June
-Edit/Re-write The Birthday Bash for Camp NaNo in April
-Submit The Birthday Bash to PitMad on June 4
-Finish CHALTS in June–July
-Edit Recovery in July
-Format e-book/physical formats and order physical proofs for Creeper short story collection in August & September
-Submit The Birthday Bash to PitMad on September 10
-Set short story publishing date for Creeper collection
-Strengthen beginning of Whispertown in August–October
-Write hotel horror story for NaNoWriMo in November
-Submit Whispertown for PitMad on December 4

So that’s

*3 short stories (2 re-writes/edits and 1 new with edit/rewrites)
*1 re-write/edit novel
*1 new novel
*Finishing last year’s novel (which is about 80-90% completed already)
*Editing part of a edited/re-written novel
*Formatting short story collection for publication
*Submitting pitches and excerpts for 4 PitMad sessions

It may seem like a lot, and maybe it is, but I’m going to do what I can. If something doesn’t get done, there’s always next year.
