What I’ve Been Working On + Dissonance by Mariella Hunt

Hey guys, just checking in. Thing have been very busy lately, and for once a part of that involved writing. Well, sort of. On September 10th, I participated in #PitMad. This time I pitched my YA horror novel, The Birthday Bash, which is one of my favorite works.

Figuring out 140 character pitches for it was very interesting, but I was happy with most of the ones I came up with. I also got a few favorites so I have sent out the requests and am eagerly awaiting responses, though it will take some time. Hopefully this novel will do better than Our Reasons, which needs more work.

I’m hoping to get my book pictures for July done this week. The weather and other plans haven’t been very cooperative lately.

I don’t have any plans to do much writing until this NaNoWriMo. If I have some time after my wedding and honeymoon in October, I’ll probably just do some editing. I am very excited about my NaNo project, which I will go into more detail about later.

One last thing–look what came in the mail today.

That’s it for now. Hopefully I will have some book pictures up soon. Thank you for your patience.

What I’m Working On: January 2015

First off, I apologize for the lack of Book vs Movie post for this week. I had plans to post one, but I’ve been busy with the non-writing and reading part of my life. I will definitely be posting it next week, though.

Not too much to report, as I haven’t done too much writing-wise, but I plan to start editing Our Reasons tomorrow, or maybe late tonight. I plan to enter it for Pitch Madness next month. If nothing comes of it, I will be submitting it to Swoon Reads. Will keep you updated on what happens. I’m also thinking I might do a quick edit of my short story, Creeper, before I submit it for a contest. There’s a few details I think could use some changing.

Hopefully from now on, I will be able to be more productive. Hope your year is off to a good start!

What I’m Working On: October 2014

Hey guys, hope your October is going well. I’m still struggling with loss, but feeling better with each day. I have  started a spooky short story just to write something. The letters to my fur babies are finished so I will post them at a later date, when the time feels right.

So, what’s the short story about?
Here’s the teaser cover:

A small rural town is devastated when the local newspaper begins to mysteriously report dark secrets about some of its most respected citizens.

Even after the paper has been proofread and monitored, the stories continue appearing.

It’s an idea I’ve had rolling around in my head for a while, somewhat based on my own hometown. Seemed like a perfect story to start on during the month of October.

I’ve also been trying to decide what to write for NaNoWriMo and I think I’ve decided to return to Our Reasons, a romance story about a depressed, suicidal girl and the guy who finds a draft of her suicide note. I tried writing it for Camp NaNo a few years back but only got a small portion done because I tried to do both Camp NaNo sessions, which turned out to be a big mistake.
Other than that, I haven’t been doing too much writing-wise. I’m still trying to decide what to write for NaNo and have unfortunately had to push back my Whispertown querying due to real life. Hopefully I can get back to that during December.

What I’m Working On: September 2014 #2

Hey guys, thanks for sticking with me this week. Still trying to everything with my computer back to normal.

Not a whole lot has happened, except that I did #PitchMadness on Tuesday. It was pretty fun and there were a lot of neat pitches floating around on Twitter. I got two agents/agency favorites so I have sent my query and chapters for Whispertown out. I haven’t heard anything yet, but I’ll still be excited that someone found my pitches intriguing. It’s a good step toward querying. Which, due to life events, I haven’t gotten to yet. But I definitely think Whispertown is the way to go.

I’m excited that October is almost here. During that month, I will try to do some Halloween/scary themed book recommendations and Book vs Movie posts. Sound good?

What I’m Working On: September 2014

Hey guys, not too much to report. I still haven’t went back to Chalts though I have the document open. Just looking for the right opportunity.

My results for Pitch Wars came back a few days ago. Whispertown wasn’t chosen BUT I did receive three out of four responses explaining why it didn’t make the cut. Two of the responses stated that it was one of their top picks but didn’t make the final or alternate cut.  Another liked the concept and title but gave some constructive criticism to make it better.

Now my plan is to participate in #PitchMadness next week and start querying Whispertown. If I don’t get anywhere, I’ll move onto another book. And I won’t stop until one day, my name is in the bookstores.

What I’m Working On: August 2014

Hey guys, I don’t think I’ve done a proper update post since the end of June. Yikes! Anyway, I really haven’t been up to all that much in regards to writing. I’ve been taking it easy ever since I finished The Birthday Bash for Camp NaNoWriMo. However, I plan to finish Chalts up in September and possibly write a Halloween-themed short story or two for October.

I did enter Whispertown for Pitch Wars on Monday. Now I just have to wait another week or so to see if it made it. If not, I will enter #PitMad in September. That’s it for now!

I’ve also gotten about halfway finished with the re-vamping of the blog. What do you think so far? The main page, About, Posting Schedule, Contests, and Book Vs Movie pages are finished. I just have to finish the Book Reviews and Resources pages. Let me know what you think of the new design. It’s not a major change–just wanted the fonts and colors to match better. The Book Vs Movie page is probably the most changed one. Thank you for your patience as I make the blog (hopefully) look better!

What I’m Working On: June 2014 Update #2

I really haven’t been working on anything lately. The plan was to finish Chalts, and while I don’t have much more to go, I’m not sure I will have time to finish it due to working so much overtime lately. However, Camp NaNo begins next month and I am definitely excited for that.

This week I will be preparing for it so I have decided that I will try to include some tips that have helped me just in case you’re having trouble. I will continue to post book reviews since I am behind on those, but the rest of the regular posting schedule will be postponed until August, when Camp NaNo is finished. I need to put my full concentration behind that next month. My plan is to post my progress updates in between book reviews.

I will be turning my short horror story, The Birthday Bash, into a full-length novel. It was inspired by the song “Happy Birthday” by The Birthday Massacre. The story is about two teenagers who seek revenge on their classmates in the most brutal of ways.

Are you doing Camp NaNo? If so, what are you writing about?
